Carmel - Soaked French Toast

Ingredients

  • brown sugar, packed firmly: 1 1/2 C
  • butter: 3/4 C
  • light corn syrup: 1/4 C plus 2 Tbsp
  • french bread slices (1 3/4 inch thick): 10
  • large eggs, beaten: 4
  • half-and-half: 2 1/2 C
  • vanilla: 1 Tbsp
  • salt: 1/4 tsp
  • sugar: Tbsp
  • cinnamon: 1 1/2 tsp
  • butter, melted: 1/4 C

Directions

Combine first 3 ingredients in a medium saucepan.  Cook over medium hear, stirring constantly, 5 minutes or until mixture is bubbly.  Pour syrup mixture evenly into a lightly greased 9x13 pan.  Arrrange bread slices over syrup.

Combine eggs and next 3 ingredients; stir well.  Gradually pour mixture over bread slices over syrup.  Cover and chill at least 8 hours.

Combine 3 Tbsp sugar and cinnamon; stir well.  Sprinkle evenly over soaked bread.  Drizzle 1/4 C melted butter over bread.  Bake, uncovered, at 350 for 45 to 50 minutes or until golden and bubbly.  Serve immediately.

Yield: 10 servings.
